Brazil has won eight of the previous nine Copa America tournaments, making them the ultimate champion on going to the 2025 competition. The team has a good balance of youth and experience with players like Kerolin and Ary Borges, and stars like Marta Vieira da Silva, who might be playing her final Copa America. A dynamic and offensive style of play is brought by head coach Arthur Elias, who was hired in 2023 after a successful time at Corinthians, a Brazil’s team. Brazil won a silver medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris under his leadership, and they have played well in recent friendlies matches, defeating Japan and the United States.

Colombia, led by head coach Angelo Marsiglia, is also considered one of the tournament favorites after finishing as runner-up in 2022 and showing strong performances in the 2023 World Cup. Star players like Linda Caicedo, Catalina Usme, and Mayra Ramirez bring experience and talent to the team. With a mix of young talents and experienced veterans, the team represents the pride and passion of Colombian football on the international stage. They reached the final in two occasions. Their first appearance in 2014 and eight years later in 2022, this time as host nation. Both times loosing against Brazil, despite the losses, both finals proved Colombia’s growing strength. Now heading into the 2025 edition, this team is more skilled than ever.

On the other hand, Argentina will compete with high hopes as they have won the tournament once in 2006 and finishing as runners-up three times (1995, 1998, and 2003). With key players like Estefania Banini, Mariana Larroquette, and Aldana Cometti bringing leadership, Argentina will aim to challenge good teams like Brazil and Colombia. Aldana Cometti, captain of the Argentinian team, will play in her fourth edition of this tournament. She was the champion of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2018 with Atlético Huila and currently plays for Madrid CFF, in the Spanish league. When asked what would make her happy after CONMEBOL Copa America Femenina, she responded: “Knowing that my teammates and I gave everything for the team, played with heart and professionalism, and stayed united with the same mindset — that’s what truly matters. The results will follow.”

Uruguay begins its journey in the CONMEBOL Copa America Femenina 2025 with the goal of advancing beyond the group stage, but it was not achieved since its last notable campaign. Commanded by Ariel Longo, Uruguay is betting on the experience of its team to take that leap and strengthen the presence of Uruguayan women’s football on the continental stage. Solange Lemos, who plays with jersey number 10 at Cruz Azul, it’s a young and versatile player who can play as midfielder, attacking midfielder, and striker. Her ability to adapt to different roles on the field makes her an important piece for both her club and her national team. It’ll be interesting to see how she does at the Copa America, she could end up being one of the tournament’s unexpected standouts. Uruguay’s best World Cup performance was a third-place finish in 2006, with a historical record of 29 games played, 6 wins, 3 draws, 20 losses, 29 goals scored, and 83 conceded.

Having said all the above, all that’s left is to watch how each team performs and see if any of them manage to surprise us along the way. It will be exciting to see which players rise to the occasion and deliver standout performances, whether they are established stars or new talents making their mark on an international level.
