With four goals, including a hat-trick in Paraguay’s 4-0 victory over Bolivia, Claudia Martinez is in first place. In their 6-0 victory over Bolivia, Kerolin Nicoli of Brazil also scored a hat-trick, increasing her total to three. Oriana Altuve from Venezuela joins her with three goals so far. Ecuador and Brazil have maintained their competitiveness thanks to two goals each from Emily Arias and Amanda Gutierrez. In addition, Luany Rosa has added two goals for Brazil, while one goal each from Duda Sampaio, Florencia Bonsegundo, Pamela Cabezas, Sonia Keefe, and Nayely Bolaños. The competition for the top scorer is becoming more intriguing as a number of player are already standing out.

Clean sheets haven’t been easy to come by so far, but a few goalkeepers have stood out for their strong performance. With one clean sheet for each one, goalkeepers Lorena da Silva Leite from Brazil and Antonia Canales from Chile are leading the tournament. Canales shine in Chile’s 3-0 victory in their opening match, while Lorena helped Brazil maintain a shutout in their 6-0 victory over Bolivia. However, Colombia’s goalkeeping situation took an unexpected turn when Katherine Tapia, who had been called up to replace injured starter Natalia Giraldo, fractured her right hand during a training session and was forced to miss the tournament. Even though clean sheets have been hard to come by, some keepers have stepped up with solid performances and key saves when it mattered most. One standout moment so far came from Nayluisa Cáceres from Venezuela during their debut against Brazil.

Many teams in the tournament have also benefited from strong leadership. In what might be her final Copa America, Marta, Brazil’s legendary forward, continues to guide her country’s squad with poise and experience.
